श्रीलंका और बांग्लादेश के बीच खेले गये एशिया कप के पहले मुकाबले में तमीम इकबाल मैच की 1.6 ओवर में ही चोटिल हो गये थे. दरअसल, श्रीलंका के तेज गेंदबाज सुरंगा लकमल की एक शार्ट गेंद तमीम इकबाल की कलाई में जाकर लगी. जिसके बाद तमीम इक़बाल की कलाई में फैक्चर आ गया. तमीम इकबाल की चोट इतनी गंभीर थी, कि उन्होंने रिटायर हर्ट ले लिया था.
9 विकेट गिरने के बाद टूटी कलाई से बल्लेबाजी करने आये तमीम
एक समय बांग्लादेश की टीम 229 रन के स्कोर पर 9 विकेट गंवाकर संघर्ष कर रही थी. ऐसे में तमीम इकबाल ने अपनी टूटी कलाई के साथ ही खेलने का फैसला कर लिया और वह मैदान पर बल्ला लेकर उतर आये.
उन्होंने अंतिम विकेट के लिए मुशफिकुर रहीम का एक अच्छा साथ दिया और उनके साथ मिलकर 32 रन की एक अहम साझेदारी की और बांग्लादेश टीम का स्कोर 261 रन तक पहुंचाया. हालाँकि, उन्होंने 4 गेंद पर 2 रन ही बनाये, लेकिन वह टीम के लिए नाबाद रहे.
